Macbeth research project started at Sadlers Wells in 2008. Emma Gladstone - via funding from The Jerwood Charitable foundation - provided Fin Walker, Ben Park, Thea Sharrock, John Napier , Patterson Joseph, Tara Fitzgerald, Roberta Pitre and Jason Piper 2 weeks resources to explore Macbeth. It became clear after these 2 weeks that Macbeth was more embedded in the world of theatre than dance, although led by choreographer Fin walker.
The Studio at the National Theatre picked the research up and over a 4 year period supported the project in its evolution, collaborating with a number of actors and dancers: Paterson Joseph, Tara Fitzgerald, Nikki Amuka Bird, David Harewood, Tobias Menzies, Ray Fearon, Adrian Scarborough, Kirsty Bushell, Katie Lusby, Roberta Pitre, Clemmie Svaas, Yorgos Karamalegos, Charlie Morrisey, Nuna Silva, Ira Mandela Siobhan, Lisa Welham, Lex Shrapnel, Elliot Cowan.
In 2015 Toni Racklin at the Barbican supported the creation of Act 1 of Macbeth with Tara Fitzgerald, Cal Macaninch, Nick Holder, Joe Allessi, Ira Mandela Siobhan, Yorgos Karamalegos, Roberta Pitre, Katie Lusby, Michael Marcus, Rufus Park, Sandy Grierson, Gruffudd Glynn, Anthony Howell, Tamzin Griffin.
'A version of the play encompassing an edited version of the text, utilising my foundation in movement, my understanding of how the emotions are expressed through the physical body and my explorations working with text, juxtaposed with a haunting score composed by long time collaborator Ben Park, 10 actors, 4 dancers, 4 singers and 2 musicians.'
